Register today to participate in the Alabama Council's Annual Convention planned for June 7 - 9, in Birmingham. The Committee has done an outstanding job of planning a diverse agenda with lots of excellent speakers and venues you will want to see. Friday, will include ARE Sessions with an 8-hour comprehensive review of the 11 Graphic Vignettes covered.Next, Working with Masterpieces presentation by Nancy Hudson. Nancy has been involved with the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Waters, renovation of the Guggenheim Museum and many other of the nation’s architectural masterpieces. Also, the Annual Membership Meeting & Third Quarterly Meeting will be at the Alabama Power Company Headquarters, 600 North 18th Street. That after noon will be the Historical Tour – Linn Park, Jefferson County Courthouse, Linn-Henley Public Library,by Giattina Aycock Architectural Studio’s Jamie Aycock,Ty Cole and Historian Philip Morris. Friday night, everyone will celebrate at the AIA Block Party & AAF Raffle at the Center for Architecture, located at 107 Richard Arrington Blvd. Be among the first to see the renovations to the Birmingham AIA space and the debut of the Center for Architecture. Enjoy your favorite beverage and tour the 21st Art Studios on the second and third floors, head down the block to visit famed Birmingham Scupltor Brad Morton’s studio, step next door to visit Bobby Michelson’s unique wood furniture studio at Ramwood Furniture. This will be followed by the President’s BBQ at Brad Morton’s Lot, (Dress casual). We will recognize Alabama Council Past Presidents and listen to the Even Steven Band. End the night by heading over to the Cahaba Brewing Company for a nightcap with your peers.

Saturday, will include the Mayor's presentation and Innovative Practice Models by Jonathan Mallie, SHoP Architects. Few firms have enjoyed as much success as SHoP. Hear how they continue to lead and their philosophy on modern practice models for today’s design profession. Later that day the Product Show, Alabama Power Tour, presented by Wiiliam Tharpe, ARE Session, Architecture and History of Kelly Ingram Park, Review of the Renovation to the 16th Street Baptist Church, The Work of Wallace Rayfield, Alabama’s First African American Architect, the Civil Rights District and Civil Rights Museum, presented by Barry McNealy, Tuskegee University’s Richard Dozier, Architecture Works’ Dick Pigford, Taylor Cooper and George Stewart. Later that evening the Tour of Railroad Park, Lea Ann Macknally, Macknally Land Design, Ty Cole of Giattina Aycock Architectural Studio and Camille Spratling, Executive Director of RailRoad Park. Ending the night with a Baron's Game and Good People Brewery. Sunday, we will tour the Alabama Theater,The Lyric Theatre and The Retail District David Fleming and Brant Beene will present highlights of the Alabama Theatre, a 2,200-seat movie palace at 1817 Third Ave. North. They will discuss changes that have been made to ensure the public’s safety in enjoying space and the updates that new and revised building codes have required the theatre to make. Fran Godchaux will present the history of the Lyric Theatre, a vaudeville house at 1800  Third Ave. North and the renovations plans to restore the theater back to original glory. Again, special attention will be paid to updates for the health, safety and welfare of the clientele.
